About Taj Mahal

Agra Fort

Agra Fort is another UNESCO World Heritage Site located just 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal. This massive red sandstone fort was the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638.

Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh, or Moonlight Garden, is situated across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. It offers a perfect spot for viewing the Taj Mahal from a distance, especially at sunset.

The Main Mausoleum

The central attraction of the Taj Mahal complex is the main mausoleum, a stunning structure made of white marble. The mausoleum houses the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, adorned with intricate carvings, precious gemstones, and calligraphy from the Quran.

The Gardens

The Taj Mahal is surrounded by meticulously maintained Mughal gardens, known as the Charbagh. The symmetrical layout of these gardens, with pathways, fountains, and lush greenery, adds to the serene and majestic ambiance of the monument.

The Mosque

On the western side of the Taj Mahal, you’ll find a beautiful red sandstone mosque. This mosque is an active place of worship and an integral part of the Taj Mahal complex. Its design and architecture complement the main mausoleum perfectly.

The Jawab

Opposite the mosque, on the eastern side of the Taj Mahal, stands the Jawab. This building mirrors the mosque’s design and serves to maintain the architectural symmetry of the complex. It was traditionally used as a guesthouse.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is a historic city located about 40 km from Agra. Built by Emperor Akbar, it served as the Mughal capital for a short period. The city is known for its well-preserved palaces and courtyards.
